Character Profiles: Later Additions to the cast
HELEN RAVEN – (LUCY PARGETER)
Helen arrived as the long lost sister of Virginia Raven – the black sheep of the family – not least since her choice of vocational training involved taking her clothes off. It was eventually revealed that Helen was in fact Virginia’s daughter – the result of an affair with a married man. Helen settled in King’s Oak, first lodging with the Stocks family above the KO café.
SARAH JANE HARVEY – (HOLLY NEWMAN)
Where do we start with this one….? Forget everything you thought you knew. Sarah Jane Harvey is not Sarah Jane Harvey – but an imposter called Louise Dixon. This is the real Sarah Jane – She must be – She can remember Doris. Anyway, the real Sarah Jane arrived just as the fake Sarah Jane wass leaving King’s Oak. Well – you can’t have two Sarah Janes knocking around the place can you? Needless to say Mark Russell fell for this Sarah Jane as well and they eventually went traveling around the world on the proceeds from selling Jill’s 30% share in Crossroads to Vic Barnes. Got that?
DAVE STOCKS – (JIM DUNK)
Dave Stocks was never much of a family man. He preferred to spend his time gambling and drinking. He wasn’t around to see Mandy growing up – He left Oona, his long suffering wife, to hold the baby – but circumstances change and he got back in their life. He eventually took over the KO café from Tom – renaming it the Knock Out Café. Never one to take the “legit” route if there’s a cheaper scam available.
OONA STOCKS – (DI SHERLOCK)
Introduced as Mandy’s “mother from hell”, Oona started work at the Crossroads Hotel – but she wasn’t really suited to a life of subservience. The arrival of Dave back in her life – and their subsequent reunion led to them taking over the café from Tom - One positive thing to come out of a dreadful year in which her only daughter, Mandy, was tragically killed in a car accident.
VIC BARNES – (RAY LONNEN)
Local boy made good. One time boyfriend of a 15 year old Kate Russell. He eventually bought the financially struggling hotel. It came as a surprise to him to discover that their son, Jake had not been adopted (as he originally thought) but had been re-claimed by a distraught Kate – despite the wishes of her mother.
ABBIE BAKER – (RAINE DAVIDSON)
Teenage runaway that befriended Scott Booth. She eventually got a job as a chambermaid at Crossroads.
JAZZ WILLIAMS – (BELINDA EVERETT)
Animal rights activist, and all-round campaigner. Friend of Nicola Russell
SAM DELANEY – (JONATHAN WRATHER)
A nasty piece of work and no mistake. He came to Crossroads as Joanne Gibson’s new boyfriend and soon gained employment in the bar, and as an odd-job man. A card cheat, an illegal booze importer and – oh yes – He just happened to murder Phil Berry’s abusive step father – but of course – he had no intention of getting caught
JULIE NOAKES – (SHEILA TAIT)
Phill Berry’s mum – Victim of domestic violence at the hands of Brian. She appears to be giving birth in the photo
BRIAN NOAKES – (COLIN MCLAUGHLIN)
Dead – but he deserved it…. Killed by Sam Delaney, though he framed Phil for the murder. Brian was hastily buried in the grounds of the hotel. – all well and good, except that Vic Barnes planned to build luxury houses on the exact same spot. Isn’t it always the way?
JOHN – (JONATHAN BARLOW)
A taxi driver employed by Virginia to pose as a non-existent suitor – they eventually became a couple and sailed off together on a cruise. A happy ending? Not likely – the arrival of Virgina’s daughter caused a stir – not least because Virginia forgot to tell John. The engagement pretty much stalled after that
EDDIE WEAVER – (RAMON TIKARAM)
Tracey befriended Eddie in the hospital where she stayed after attempting to commit suicide. A recovered alcoholic, Eddie was estranged from his son, Paul, but longed to get back in touch
SEAN – (LUKE EVANS)
Nasty lad – a friend of Phil. He arrived at the hotel and tried to tempt Phil away – but not before leading a gang of thugs after himself. If you’re going to steal money – make sure its from someone without thugs. Will they never learn?
LORRAINE HAMILTON – (HARRIET THORPE)
Hotel guest who ran a self – motivational course
SALLY HAMILTON – (LAURA STRACHAN)
Attractive daughter of Lorraine. Fell for Des. How did he do it?
RICHARD MASON – (GARY WEBSTER)
Initially a boyfriend for Beena, but he turned out to be up to no good. It was revealed that he intended to use her as a “sweetener” in a business deal. You wouldn’t think that sort of thing would happen in a place like Crossroads would you?
MIKE KITSON – (JONATHAN GUY LEWIS)
Teacher at King’s Oak Comprehensive – and fair game as far as Tracey Booth was concerned. All very embarrassing for Scott – but he did have a nice line in teacher jackets
ARTHUR WILLIAMS – (JOHN CATER)
Pianist. Would be suitor of Doris Luke
DIANE LAWRENCE – (CAROL ROYLE)
Patrick’s ex – an old flame from way back when….You know – You could tell we were heading for trouble when she borrowed money from Patrick behind Kate’s back. The lies, the deceit, Loved it
LUCY BARNES – (KERRIE TAYLOR)
Adopted daughter of Vic Barnes – Hence slightly awkward when she had a brief affair with Vic’s son Jake – Of course that happens all the time in soaps now – look at Sharon and Dennis in Eastenders. We were first though….unless of course you count Scott and Kelly Windsor in Emmerdale or that posh family from Brookside
EBONY THE DOG
Loyal companion of Rocky the porter. Finest moment: Eating Virginia’s shoe
LEE FROM STEPS (LEE LATCHFORD EVANS)
STEPS stayed at Crossroads. No really – they did…….er…..Okay, we only ever saw Lee – but I’m sure H and Claire weren’t too far behind
UNCLE BOB – (TERENCE HILLIER)
One half a great comedy double act, Tom’s Uncle Bob was a real West-Midlander – rare in Crossroads 2001. Tried to interfere in Tom’s love life and for a while became the legal guardian of Daniel.
AUNT SYLVIA – (GERALDINE FITZGERALD)
As for Bob – A busybody – but only because they had Daniel’s best interests at heart.
