EARLY CROSSROADS EPISODE FOUND AFTER 43 YEARS (15-05-08)

It sounds too good to be true, but is in fact completely 100% genuine. An early episode of Crossroads has been discovered in a wrongly labeled can at the film archive in Perivale.

The episode in question is 126 from 1965 – and is now – officially the oldest known complete episode to exist in the ITV archive.

Incidentally, ITV have resurrected the itv.com/crossroads internet address to celebrate the discovery. As you may know, this was the on-screen address for later episodes of Crossroads 2001.

To celebrate the discovery, we’ve sent the whole of C2001 into “black and white” mode for the week. Hooray!

More information, and a chance to watch the episode can be found HERE

BBC REPORTS ON DEATH OF ITV IN EAST MIDLANDS (13-04-08)

On Friday 11th April, the BBC programme “Inside Out” for the East Midlands region reported on the diminished role of ITV in the East Midlands. In particular it focused on the closure of the Lenton Lane Complex in Nottingham, the home of Crossroads 2001.

Actress, Kathy Staff, who played Doris Luke in the 2001 remake and the orginal series was interviewed by Marie Ashby (herself a former employee of ITV Central). Although the report was there to illustrate the reasons for the closure of the studio, Kathy pulled no punches in her criticism of the show and its failure to build on the success of the orginal series.

1.        Central branding on the side of the studios

2.        Kathy being interviewed

3.        An episode of Crossroads being edited

4.        Marie walking in a corridor – note the wooden blinds from C2001 at the end!

The episode is currently available to view as part of the BBC iplayer service – although this will shortly expire. A full report is available on the BBC site HERE.

MORE ITEMS ADDED TO CROSSROADS 2001 ARCHIVE (26-03-08)

Thanks to a recent ebay win, another item from the Crossroads 2001 has been saved for the archive. This time it is an abstract picture used as set dressing. The image is very similar to the one that appears in the background of Jane Rossington’s autograph card (left), and is clearly from the same series. Written on the back are the words “Guest Room A Option 2” and “Corridor” which speaks for itself.

To view an image of the actual picture CLICK HERE.

Obviously if you have any items from the series in your collection we would love to hear from you…
