Okay not as exciting as it sounds – Adam Chance, aka Tony Adams appeared briefly in the “Hotel Babylon” skit filmed as part of Children In Need this year. HOTEL HAUNTED BY GHOSTS FROM THE PAST (09-10-07) |
Somewhere in England, in a glitzy chrome and velvet hotel, ghosts from the motel that used to stand on the site are making their presence felt… A motel that burnt to the ground over 25 years ago… A plotline from the Crossroads 2001 series? No, a story from the 2008 “Doctor Who” story book from Panini. Written by Paul Magrs, the story features the “Ringroad Motel and a deadly fire that raised the building to the ground. It features a cheeky illustration on page 35 that will have fans of the original series laughing…or turning in their graves. |

SHERRIE HEWSON IN THE NEWS OF THE WORLD (07-10-07) |
Despite popular appearances on ITV’s “Loose Women”, several other programmes on both ITV and the BBC, and successful stints in the theatre, the News of the World is reporting that Sherrie Hewson (Virgnia Raven) has declared herself bankrupt. C2001 would like to send Sherrie our good wishes, and we’re sure it won’t be too long before we see more of her on our screens. |

UPDATE: |
DESTINATION LIVES ON….(07-10-07) |
In a brief update to the previous story we can confirm that “Destination Crossroads” has closed as the official Mk II site for the Crossroads Appreciation Society. The name will live on however, as the new name for the popular fan forum – which you can find by following the links above. As a “good luck” for the new venture, we have pointed the old www.destinationcrossroads.co.uk domain name in their direction so you can also access the forum that way. Crossroads 2001 bought up the name when CAS decided to let it expire a couple of years ago. Everyone here is glad that it remains in use as the ultimate “destination” for crossroads conversation on the web. |

DESTINATION CROSSROADS OFFLINE (01-10-07) |
It is always sad when a website closes, but news has reached us that long-standing fansite “Destination Crossroads” has closed its doors after nearly 7 years online. Mike Garrett of the Crossroads Appreciation Society has cited the lack of interest in the Carlton revivals as the main reason for the closure of the site – with audiences and interest now focusing on the “classic” original series – partly due to the success of the DVD releases. The closure of Destination Crossroads comes alongside the ending of “Crossroads Emporium”, the 2003 series site from CAS. Fans of the Carlton revival will no doubt be relieved to hear that the popular “Crossroads 2003 and Beyond” fan-fiction site IS continuing and will become home to the more popular parts of the two ending sites. We wish Mike, Alex, Simon and the rest of the Destination team every success for the future. |

VOLUME FOUR RELEASED (17-09-07) |

A brief note to say that Volume 4 of original series episodes is now available in many high street stores and the usual online outlets. |

HOW SOON THEY FORGET – 2 MILLION A RATINGS SUCCESS! (17-08-07) |
What a difference five years can make in the fickle world of TV ratings. It seems that with 2 million viewers “That Anthony Cotton Show” is now seen as a ratings success for ITV in their notoriously difficult tea-time slot. On August 14th, 2007 Digital Spy ran a story that claimed the show pulled in “an impressive” 2 million viewers. SEE HERE. How telling that on the same date - just five years ago, August 14th 2002, the same website reported that Crossroads managed “just 3 million as of late.” SEE HERE. Of course, that was following a period of growth for Crossroads. Who knows what could have happened if the show had been left to develop…. For a more detailed look at Crossroads’ ratings, please visit our features page by following the links above. |

THE EXTERIOR SET TODAY (07-05-07) |
We’re pleased to present for you a special short video clip that shows the state of the Crossroads set today. The clip clearly shows that much of the “hotel” was in actual fact the studio buildings in Nottingham – although nearly all of the programme’s additions have been removed. What does still exist are the small curved walls that used to be planted beds – and the traffic island / water feature from 2003 – although they are in a state of disrepair. Click HERE to see the clip. (Hosted on You Tube) |

CROSSROADS WATER FEATURE PRESERVED (22-04-07) |
We are pleased to announce that the water feature that appeared outside the hotel during the 2001-2002 series of Crossroads has been bought by C2001 as part of the growing collection of memorabilia. The item was recently up for auction on ebay and the seller tells us he had planned to remove the Crossroads name from the item – thank goodness he didn’t! CLICK HERE to see an image of the item as it appeared in the show, and HERE to see the item just after it came out of storage. In related news, the CAS site is reporting that someone has claimed to have found the first two episodes of the orginial series from 1964 – although no further news has been forthcoming. We will keep you posted on any more developments. |

FREEMA AGYEMAN RETURNS TO OUR SCREENS ON SATURDAY (29-03-07) |
Fans of Freema Agyeman – aka Lola Wise from the 2003 series of Crossroads will no doubt be aware that her debut as Martha Jones, the Doctor’s new assistant is scheduled for 19:00 on Saturday 31st March. Freema played a brief role at the end of the last series but returns to Doctor Who as a new character – possibly the cousin of her previous role – who died at the hands of the Cybermen. |
ITV COMMISSION A NEW DAYTIME SOAP (22-03-07) |
…unfortunately NOT a resurrection of “Crossroads”….ITV has ordered 50 episodes of “The Royal Today”, a spin-off from the popular “The Royal” series, which is itself a spin-off from “Heartbeat” – Whether this new soap will air in the old Crossroads 2001 timeslot remains to be seen. The success of the BBC’s popular “Doctors” serial could point to an early afternoon broadcast. The show will feature at least one character from “The Royal”. With the notable exception of the final months of “The Paul O’Grady Show”, ITV’s highest rating daytime show for a considerable amount of time was the revamped Crossroads – it seems that there “may” be life in afternoon soaps after all… |
