CARLTON STUDIOS: WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? |
The first images on this page were sent to us in January 2005 as Carlton prepared to move out of the Lenton Lane complex. The axe-ing of Crossroads was one of the factors that led to the closure of the studios and this gallery presents an interesting glimpse into the end of major TV production in the East Midlands. |

Studio 8 housed the impressive reception / bar / office set which was designed by Rod Stratfold. Click on the image above to see pictures of the completed set. |

Looking “the other way” to the picture above, you can just make out the louvre blinds at the end of the passageThe hotel corridor was constructed within this one and the doors could only open a few inches before hitting these walls. |

By 2005 the exterior had been returned to a pre-Crossroads state. In the picture on the left you can see the fire escape on which the exterior was built. Click the above image to see the set construction. |
The ornamental fountain from the 2003 series was a planted traffic island in 2001. In the background you can see the extensive landscaping which formed part of the exterior set. |

Not really a feature of Crossroads 2001, but I couldn’t resist it! The statue that overlooked the hotel exterior in 2003 was sold off a few months after filming was completed. All that remains is a space in the ground – to mark the spot where the murdered Jenny now rests.

The entrance today (left) and how it looked in 2001 (above). The image on the left comes from the University of Nottingham website HERE. As the new owners of the site they have made several changes as you can see! |

In many ways a continuation of the first images on this page. Some of the studio space has now been converted into storage space for important documents and the university’s extensive collections. |
The former Carlton Music Library has been completely gutted as part of the changes to the site.

As ever, I would like to offer my thanks to the former employees of Carlton for sending me the images of the closing studio complex. |
