EARLY CROSSROADS EPISODE FOUND AFTER 43 YEARS (15-05-08)
It sounds too good to be true, but is in fact completely 100% genuine. An early episode of Crossroads has been discovered in a wrongly labeled can at the film archive in Perivale. The episode in question is 126 from 1965 – and is now – officially the oldest known complete episode to exist in the ITV archive.
Incidentally, ITV have resurrected the itv.com/crossroads internet address to celebrate the discovery. As you may know, this was the on-screen address for later episodes of Crossroads 2001.
BBC REPORTS ON DEATH OF ITV IN EAST MIDLANDS (13-04-08)
On Friday 11th April, the BBC programme “Inside Out” for the East Midlands region reported on the diminished role of ITV in the East Midlands. In particular it focused on the closure of the Lenton Lane Complex in Nottingham, the home of Crossroads 2001.
Actress, Kathy Staff, who played Doris Luke in the 2001 remake and the orginal series was interviewed by Marie Ashby (herself a former employee of ITV Central). Although the report was there to illustrate the reasons for the closure of the studio, Kathy pulled no punches in her criticism of the show and its failure to build on the success of the orginal series.
MORE ITEMS ADDED TO CROSSROADS 2001 ARCHIVE (26-03-08)
Thanks to a recent ebay win, another item from the Crossroads 2001 has been saved for the archive. This time it is an abstract picture used as set dressing. The image is very similar to the one that appears in the background of Jane Rossington’s autograph card (left), and is clearly from the same series. Written on the back are the words “Guest Room A Option 2” and “Corridor” which speaks for itself. Obviously if you have any items from the series in your collection we would love to hear from you…
ADAM CHANCE MOVES IN TO HOTEL BABYLON (16-11-07)
Okay not as exciting as it sounds – Adam Chance, aka Tony Adams appeared briefly in the “Hotel Babylon” skit filmed as part of Children In Need this year. It also featured cameos from Prunella Scales as Sybil Fawlty, Leslie Joseph as Dorian (Birds of a Feather), June Whitfield as….er….June and many other TV stars of shows gone by. Don’t forget to donate to Children In Need.
HOTEL HAUNTED BY GHOSTS FROM THE PAST (09-10-07)
Somewhere in England, in a glitzy chrome and velvet hotel, ghosts from the motel that used to stand on the site are making their presence felt…A motel that burnt to the ground over 25 years ago… A plotline from the Crossroads 2001 series? No, a story from the 2008 “Doctor Who” story book from Panini. Written by Paul Magrs, the story features the “Ringroad Motel and a deadly fire that raised the building to the ground.
It features a cheeky illustration on page 35 that will have fans of the original series laughing…or turning in their graves.
BRISK BUSINESS ON EBAY FOR AUTOGRAPHS (07-10-07)

DESTINATION CROSSROADS OFFLINE (01-10-07)
It is always sad when a website closes, but news has reached us that long-standing fansite “Destination Crossroads” has closed its doors after nearly 7 years online. Mike Garrett of the Crossroads Appreciation Society has cited the lack of interest in the Carlton revivals as the main reason for the closure of the site – with audiences and interest now focusing on the “classic” original series – partly due to the success of the DVD releases. We wish Mike, Alex, Simon and the rest of the Destination team every success for the future.
VOLUME FOUR RELEASED (17-09-07)
A brief note to say that Volume 4 of original series episodes is now available in many high street stores and the usual online outlets.
HOW SOON THEY FORGET – 2 MILLION A RATINGS SUCCESS! (17-08-07)
What a difference five years can make in the fickle world of TV ratings. It seems that with 2 million viewers “That Anthony Cotton Show” is now seen as a ratings success for ITV in their notoriously difficult tea-time slot. On August 14th, 2007 Digital Spy ran a story that claimed the show pulled in “an impressive” 2 million viewers.
How telling that on the same date - just five years ago, August 14th 2002, the same website reported that Crossroads managed “just 3 million as of late.” Of course, that was following a period of growth for Crossroads. Who knows what could have happened if the show had been left to develop….

Are these news items getting obscure or is it just me?
CROSSROADS WRITER’S DOTOR WHO EPISODE DELAYED (02-05-07)
One time script writer for Crossroads, Chris Chibnall’s episode of Doctor Who, entitled “42” has been pushed back in the schedule by one week – meaning it will now be broadcast on 19th May.

CROSSROADS WATER FEATURE PRESERVED (22-04-07)
We are pleased to announce that the water feature that appeared outside the hotel during the 2001-2002 series of Crossroads has been bought by C2001 as part of the growing collection of memorabilia. The item was recently up for auction on ebay and the seller tells us he had planned to remove the Crossroads name from the item – thank goodness he didn’t!
In related news, the CAS site is reporting that someone has claimed to have found the first two episodes of the orginial series from 1964 – although no further news has been forthcoming. We will keep you posted on any more developments.

ITV COMMISSION A NEW DAYTIME SOAP (22-03-07)
…unfortunately NOT a resurrection of “Crossroads”….ITV has ordered 50 episodes of “The Royal Today”, a spin-off from the popular “The Royal” series, which is itself a spin-off from “Heartbeat” – Whether this new soap will air in the old Crossroads 2001 timeslot remains to be seen. The success of the BBC’s popular “Doctors” serial could point to an early afternoon broadcast. The show will feature at least one character from “The Royal”. With the notable exception of the final months of “The Paul O’Grady Show”, ITV’s highest rating daytime show for a considerable amount of time was the revamped Crossroads – it seems that there “may” be life in afternoon soaps after all…
MAMMA MIA MRS RUSSELL! (13-01-07)
Great news for fans of Jane Gurnett, she's signed up to play Tanya in “Mamma Mia”. The character is apparently a bit of a maneater who flirts with one of the best men at the wedding, Pepper. Her main solo is “Does Your Mother Know”, along with some others such as “Chiquitita” and “Dancing Queen”.
Thanks to Natalie at www.janegurnett.co.uk for the details.
ITV TO OFFER ARCHIVE PROGRAMMING OVER INTERNET (03-01-07)
ITV is to launch its own free-to-view online video service at the end of March. The service will offer live streaming of ITV channels, a 30-day catch-up service and access to 1,000 hours of archived content. This does open up the possibility that old episodes of Crossroads could become available if there was sufficient demand. As ever, we will keep you posted on further developments.
