Features: Script to Screen

This page should give you some insight into the production of  “Crossroads” – in particular the filming of scene 5 of episode 123.

The show was filmed at Carlton Studios on Lenton Lane in Nottingham. The massive sets took up space in studios 6 and 8 as well as several other converted areas (such as a corridor and a music suite).

The availability of the exterior location on-site meant that much of the filming was self contained in and around the studios. However another major location was hidden within the studio grounds – “Bradley’s Shed” was its official name – used on production documents.

The script is a production draft of Episode 123 (Scene 5). You can see the director’s notes written on the side which include: a quick pencil sketch of the location, notes on the actors’ names and camera directions: “Pan up from wood to P + B”, “2 way”, “singles” etc. Page 16 also includes a short section of dialogue that has been cut.

With thanks to Carlton Television for providing the production documents.

Other “notable” shed appearances include one episode of Mike Brewer’s “Wrecks to Riches” as a used car lot and “Crossroads: The Comeback”

You can read about locations slightly further than the Carlton car-park by visiting other pages in this site. Click the “Features” link on the left for more…
