Features: 50th Anniversary (Under Construction)

On the 2nd November, 1964, Crossroads was first broadcast to the ATV region…Although the original series ended in 1988, and the revival has been off air since 2003 – it was only fitting that the Crossroads fans did something to celebrate 50 years of hotel/motel life. This page contains just a few highlights of the celebrations…

A VERY SPECIAL DAY02/11/14 – MEDIA INTEREST AND A SPECIAL FAN GATHERING…

There was a lot of media interest in the anniversary, with articles appearing online and in print editions of newspapers.

Former 2001 cast member Neil Grainger tweeted a special message on the anniversary itself…

At Crossroads2001 Towers the day started with a celebratory piece of toast – before the trip to….

Surprisingly still recognisable – even after all these years. A group of fans had decided to meet here to hold a private celebration…

…and we were pleasantly surprised to see this lovely tribute proudly displayed in the bar!

Ah – if only my 12 year old self could have guessed that one day I would be here!

…He’d be even more surprised to find a cardboard cutout of Jill hiding in the flower beds…

John Jameson-Davis from the Crossroads Appreciation Society entertained with readings from Noele Gordon’s autobiography.

ITV Central reporter, Andy Bevan produced an excellent item on the history of Crossroads. It was broadcast on Monday 3rd November.

Tony Adams was interviewed at the hotel earlier in the week…

…alongside Jane Rossington…

He also filmed the fan event at Penns Hall….

…where John Jameson-Davis was interviewed about the classic series…

…and yours truly was interviewed about the later revival

The 1970’s Crossroads font… The original Tony Hatch theme tune – and even dial telephones. It could only mean….

…a new “episode” of Crossroads. Adam walks in – sees Jill – and asks for a room…

“I thought you were dead!” she tells him.

“I could say the same!” he replies!

Cue the WINGS version of the theme and the criss-cross credits…

“Can’t we forget the past and start over again?” he asks. She reminds him that this is Crossroads – and anything is possible!

The first ITV / ATV production since 1981?

The most “high profile” event was the Paul O’Grady show on 02/11/14 on BBC Radio 2. Paul is a big fan of the original series.  He invited Jane Rossington, Tony Adams and Sue Hanson into the studio. (Photo: BBC)

For two hours, Paul discussed motel memories with the cast and read out a selection of emails from listeners. They also spoke to Paul Henry on the telephone. (Photo: BBC)
